Proposal · Cultural Footprint

Building Altra's
cultural footprint

A twelve-month engagement to build new cultural and lifestyle territory for Altra, alongside what specialty-run already does well. From the team that put four cultural moments in market with Altra over the last thirty days.

01The Opportunity

Specialty earned the loyalty.
Culture unlocks the next chapter

Altra's specialty-run and outdoor heritage built the loyal core that drove 35–38% growth and a $250M+ run rate. The blue-sky territory now is cultural. It's adjacent to what's already working, not in conflict with it.

i.
McLaren on the strategy

"Culture, running, + wellness."

Altra's Global Brand President Jen McLaren has stated the brand's go-forward thesis publicly: invest at the intersection of culture, running, and wellness. The strategy is articulated. This proposal puts a partner in front of you ready to help build it in market.

ii.
McLaren on awareness

"Fairly low."

"Our awareness is still fairly low as a challenger brand in the space, so this really allows us to reach new consumers." That's Jen McLaren in conversation with Footwear News, June 2025. Reported at ~10% in the US at the March 2025 Altra Investor Day. Reaching the next ten percent means going where specialty-run hasn't been built to reach: cultural and lifestyle audiences.

iii.
The blue sky

Specialty + lifestyle.

Altra's current wholesale footprint sits in specialty-run and outdoor. Those are the right doors for the brand's heritage, and how the loyal core was earned. Streetwear, concept-store, and lifestyle distribution is the parallel lane. Additive, not competitive. Curative is already operating in that lane.

02The Receipts

30 days. 4 moments.
15 partners

In April 2026, Curative produced the kind of cultural cycle most internal teams take a year to mobilize. Four moments in market. Fifteen partners introduced alongside Altra. Real receipts.

The Speed Project

Team ORUZU was invited to create a team for the world's most exclusive ultra marathon relay race, The Speed Project. Powered by Altra Running, ORUZU's TSP team was assembled to highlight runners of color. The team integrated the brand through their entire TSP experience. The pre-race welcome event featured a team shake-out run, with Pleasures providing a first look at their upcoming Altra collaboration, allowing the team to wear-test the product prior to and during the race. The welcome event highlighted event partners showcasing local POC-owned businesses, brands, and artists. The entire event was a model for what an integrated marketing release can look like: tying specialty SMU product to a marquee running event.

Pleasures × Altra Community Run

On April 10th, Pleasures partnered with Renegade Running to host a community run celebrating the launch of their upcoming collaboration with Altra Running. Team ORUZU showed up to support the launch while also capturing content for both brands.

ORUZU Oasis

A 5K community run plus wellness retreat at a $5M desert estate. Hyperice and LSD Running recovery lounge. Soulection DJs. Kase Real Estate hosting. The "intersection of culture, running, and wellness," operationalized. McLaren's thesis, demonstrated in real space, in real time.

ORUZU × LSD Running

Extended OASIS into a second activation: a trail run with the LSD Running team, capturing content showcasing their new shop tees. Zero cost to Altra. A visibility moment aligning the brand with one of the top specialty-running accounts in the country through cultural content. One event, amplified twice.

04Why ORUZU

A small audience.
The right audience

ORUZU is an IYKYK cultural property: small in followers, dense in influence. The followers we have are the people other brands want. The community, not the count, is the asset.

"All Races
Welcome."

ORUZU exists at the intersection of run culture, lifestyle, and people of color in ultra running. The mission is on the masthead, and on every kit.

It is aligned with brands like Pleasures and stores like Renegade Running and LSD Running — the cultural and retail anchors of LA run culture.

It comes with an in-house content engine, already producing cinematic delivery at every activation.

The followers aren't a vanity count. They are brand founders, creative directors, run-shop owners, photographers, and cultural operators across LA, NY, and Tokyo. The kind of audience other brands pay agencies to reach.

05The Proposal

Three layers.
One relationship

This is not a project engagement. It is a working relationship — already in motion — that we are now formalizing. Three distinct layers, each priced differently, each unlocking different value. They sit on top of each other and compound over time.

● The structure
01
Monthly Retainer · Always-on
The ongoing taste, network, and stewardship work. Team curation. Brand partnerships. TSP relationship management. Cultural intel. Product seeding. Taking meetings on Altra's behalf. Fielding and proposing opportunities. This layer formalizes the work that's already happening — without a contract.
02
Production Markup · When it scales
When retainer work produces something — a shoot, an event, an activation — production costs pass through with a flat 15% markup. Clean, transparent, no surprises. All activation hard costs scoped per-event under their own SOW.
03
Project Deals · The anchors
Long-term project management that doesn't revolve around a single event. Multi-year cultural commitments, partnership stewardship, programs with their own arc. Each structured as its own deal — separate from the retainer, negotiated independently, multi-year by default. The TSP Chamonix and Atacama pinnacle partnerships are the first. These are the plays no other agency can broker.
06Cultural Marketing

Cultural Marketing Retainer

Always-on. A monthly retainer covering the strategy, content, community, partnership development, and cultural intelligence that justifies an ongoing engagement, not a project-by-project relationship.

03
Community Programming

ORUZU community kept warm. Continuous demonstration of cultural relevance for Altra to amplify.

07Strategic Opportunity

The Speed Project, presented by Altra

Curative brought The Speed Project to the table. Altra is now in active conversations to become the pinnacle sponsor of both Chamonix (August) and Atacama (November) — two of the three TSP flagship events, in the same year. This is not a future ask. It is already in motion.

"If LALV is a house cat, Atacama is a tiger."

Nils Arend · TSP Founder · May 18, 2026

01
What it is

3 races. 1 IP.

TSP is the most credible underground ultra in the US. "No rules, no spectators." Three editions a year: LA to Vegas (April), Chamonix (August), Atacama, Chile (November). One name, three flagship moments.

02
The opportunity

Pinnacle.
Both slots.

Chamonix and Atacama are both available as pinnacle partner positions in 2026. TSP evaluates partners on creative freedom and cultural commitment — not checkbook size. Altra's challenger position and culture-first thesis are the strongest fit on the market.

03
Curative's role

Already
at the table.

Curative has direct relationships with TSP leadership. We made the introduction. We are managing the conversation. This is the output no agency pitches — it is already happening.

Onboarding intensive with Tom and the Altra team. Locked Q3 calendar: TSP Chamonix activation, Western States cultural moment, NYFW collab pitch shortlist. First Cultural Intel Memo delivered.

Month 2 · July
One Owned Cultural Moment
A Curative-conceived community 5K + cultural activation in LA. Working concept: a sunset run from a hosted brand space, partner constellation in run + lifestyle (Pleasures, Renegade, LSD Running orbit), DJ and food included, hyperlocal POC-owned vendors featured. Designed as the prototype for a recurring summer series. Per-activation SOW ballpark: $25–40K hard cost + 15% management fee.
03
Month 3 · Early August
Welcome Edition NYC
Curative attends Welcome Edition with Altra's Lifestyle Sales team — the buying floor where KITH-tier and concept-store buyers actually live. Curative coordinates pre-show outreach to active retailer relationships (KITH, Concepts, Sneaker Politics, Atmos, Dover Street Market via the Beautiful Losers connection) so target accounts plan to stop by. Multiple qualified introductions in a single trip — more efficient than door-by-door outreach.
04
Month 3 · Mid August
TSP Chamonix Team Activation
Team ORUZU competes at TSP Chamonix powered by Altra. Pre and post-race content delivered. International cultural moment captured. The kind no specialty-run wholesale rep produces.
05
Month 3 · Late August
TSP Chamonix Pinnacle Activation
Altra in market as pinnacle sponsor at Chamonix. Curative manages the on-ground activation, content capture, and partner relations. The brand presence at TSP's most international event — in the same year the relationship started.
09How we measure

What success looks like

Reviewed at the monthly business review and the quarterly retrospective. Failure on three or more KPIs at any quarterly review triggers a strategy reset, not a termination. Definitions and methodology documented below. Cultural Intel Memo sample available on request before signature.

10The Agreement

A Master Services Agreement, three SOWs underneath

The standard enterprise services architecture VF already operates inside. One MSA signed once handles the legal framework. Three Statements of Work flow underneath — each scoped to keep individual decisions inside your single-approval lane. The structure your procurement team already has templates for.

i.
Master Services AgreementSigned once. Legal framework only — IP ownership, confidentiality, indemnification, payment terms, change-order process, key-person clauses (bilateral), talent vetting protocol. No dollar amount. Signing the MSA does not commit Altra to anchor projects (SOW 3). Each anchor is negotiated, scoped, and approved separately on its own timeline.

ii.
SOW 1 · Annual RetainerStrategy. Account leadership. Partnership pipeline. Cultural intel. Calendar coordination. Always-on. Scope includes: weekly check-in + monthly business review, 4–6 polished content assets/month for Altra owned channels (1–2 photo sets, 2–3 short-form videos, 1 editorial piece), 1 community run/month, 5–10 partnership outreaches/month, monthly Cultural Intel Memo, and ongoing calendar coordination across earned and owned moments.
$30K / mo
iii.
SOW 2 · Per-Activation SOWsSingle events, discrete moments, one-and-done activations. Paid talent, producers, shoot days, and production hard costs pass through plus 15% Curative management fee. Boundary: any project under $100K total cost, completing within 90 days of kickoff, tied to a single event or moment.
15% mgmt fee
iv.
SOW 3 · Anchor Project ManagementLong-term, multi-event projects that sit outside the retainer and outside single activations. Multi-year partnership stewardship, pinnacle sponsorships, anchor deals. Boundary: any project above $100K total value, spanning more than 90 days, or covering multiple events. Each scoped per project. TSP Chamonix and Atacama pinnacle partnerships are the first. Illustrative: an anchor partnership at $300K total value × 12% Curative management fee = $36K, typically paid quarterly over the deal term.
10–15% of anchor value
Year One RecurringSOW 1. Activation and anchor fees invoiced separately per SOW.
$360K
11The math

Why this compounds

Cultural marketing's compounding return. Brand awareness, retailer demand, partnership optionality, content engine. None of these would exist as standalone purchases. The retainer makes all of them happen, simultaneously.

$360K
Year One Recurring
Annual Retainer SOW only. Per-activation production hard costs (variable) invoiced separately per-SOW, each under $100K.

Demand
at the doors your team is opening
Cultural credibility builds brand permission. Every TSP activation, every content drop, every partnership — each one moves Altra closer to the doors and audiences that matter. The work compounds.
Optionality
on TSP partnership maturity
Pinnacle event presence at Chamonix and Atacama in 2026. Storytelling-led path to TSP presenting-partner conversations as the relationship matures over 18–24 months. Upside, directional, not priced in.

Cultural credibility, retailer demand, partnership optionality, content engine — all from one retainer. None of them would exist as standalone line items. The investment makes all of them happen at once.

12Or, start smaller

A six-month pilot if you'd rather test first

Same structure, half the term, lower commitment. Designed to auto-convert to the full retainer if KPIs hit at month 5. One review. One decision. No re-pitch.

At month 5 review, if these KPIs hit, the engagement auto-converts to the full SOW 1 retainer ($30K/mo) for an additional 12 months, plus ongoing per-activation SOWs as scoped. No re-pitch required. If KPIs miss, mutual right to walk.

Richard Vaughn · CEO
Wally Vu · Creative Director + COO
